Each print takes 2 or 3 plates and about a week. Ultramarine goes down first, vermilion 3 days later once the blue has set, and every sheet is registered by hand against pins on the bed.
Ink is knocked up on the slab until it hisses, then rolled onto the block in 4 thin passes.
The first proof shows where the block still sits high. Those areas are cut back before the edition starts.
Vermilion is printed over the dry blue. Where the two overlap, the dots mix into a deep violet.
An edition is a promise about numbers. Once the last sheet is pulled, the blocks are cancelled with a cut and printed once more to prove it.
The studio opens on the first Saturday of every month. Every print on the line is in the plan chest, with proofs and seconds at half price.
Hanne takes 2 commissions a year, usually a house, a boat or a stretch of coast. Galleries can ask for the trade list. Write to studio@plateproof.studio.
