On every pick the loom presses the next card against a bank of needles. Where the card has a hole, a needle passes through, its hook rises and the harness cord lifts one warp thread clear of the shuttle. Where there is none, the thread stays down.
The warp is indigo, dyed in the yard. The weft is undyed linen. A lifted thread shows indigo on the face of the cloth; a lowered one lets the linen cross over it. Nothing is printed afterwards, so every line of the pattern was decided on the card.
The card you punched, read one pick at a time. Lifted threads rise, the shuttle crosses, the reed beats the weft in and a row of your cloth appears at the fell. Drag to walk round the loom.

Visits run Tuesday to Thursday, 10:00 to 15:00, on the shed floor with the looms running. Your card travels with the request as a weave draft, so the weaver can have it on the sample loom when you arrive.
