01 · The bench0 to 4 s
Every letter started as metal.
Sorts began as lead, cast on a 1958 Monotype caster in our basement in 2019. We set every glyph, proofed it, then drew it again on two axes.

Glyphhouse is a two-person foundry with one family, Sorts. Its weight axis runs from 200 to 900 and its width from 75 to 125. Push the cursor into the headline and the letters get heavier where you push.

02 · The axis4 to 8 s
This page is set in one variable file. As the film runs, every chapter heading moves along the weight axis from 300 to 900. The readout in the corner is the live value.
03 · The red sort8 to 10 s
An old compositor's habit: a red sort marks where the last proof stopped. We kept it. Every Sorts specimen sets one letter in signal red, never the same one twice.

Type your own line, set the axes, then move the cursor through it. The letters nearest the pointer climb toward 900 and narrow as they do, so the line keeps its length.
