Punta Vela · four rooms on basalt
A small hotel on a lava terrace, sixty-two metres above a sea with nothing on the other side. Scroll, and fly the last kilometre in one breath, from open water to the pillow.

There is no road to the door. Guests come in on the harbour boat and climb the old fishermen's stair, or they don't come at all. The terrace was a caper field until 1961.

Cut into the terrace behind the pool. The rear wall is the cliff itself, sealed and left bare, cool at noon and warm at midnight. One window, set at the height of the pillow.
03 · Pool Suiteone of these
The suite opens straight onto the pool, twenty-eight metres of seawater pumped up the cliff and warmed to 29° from May to October. The far edge drops into the view, not into a gutter.
04 · The Table14 seats
One long table on the pool deck, lit from underneath by the water. Chef Inés Marrodán reads the 17:00 catch and writes the menu on the back of the ticket.
05 · Suite Unoonly one
The south wall is glass on a single track. Push it and it slides eleven metres into the rock, and the room simply stops being inside. Brass lamp, linen, nothing to plug in.

Open 12 May to 26 October. On the eleven or twelve days a season when the swell shuts the harbour, the boat stays tied up and we refund the night without a form.
